Label Compliance Analyst

Job Description

Position Summary

Position is responsible for supporting the company’s regulatory compliance function. Position will ensure the company meets all labeling requirements, food regulations and that all updates, new formulations and ingredients are compliant with AFNA specifications and government regulations.


Position Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Labeling compliance:

  • Responsible for developing labeling information for products.
  • Final approval, review and assess labeling information for accuracy in accordance with master/test recipes and their respective production sheets.
  • Create labels for immediate and/or shipping containers.
  • Prepare and maintain label transmittals for USDA approvals and carry out generic approvals.
  • Responsible for staying informed of new and updated labeling regulations of such federal agencies as the USDA, FDA, FTC, TTB, and CBP as well as local and state agencies and presenting findings to cross functional teams.
  • Ensure that imported products contain informative and truthful labeling in English and that they are complying with the requirements of the FD&C Act and the regulations promulgated under the Act.

 

Recipe accuracy:

  • Systematically review recipes for accuracy and report findings to managers and supervisors.
  • Review and approve product specifications for packaging, supplier information and certification.
  • Generate product specification and nutrition facts for finished products.
  • Provide direction on completing specific documents requested by customers.
  • Verify the accuracy of supplier information for packaging materials.

 

Product importing and exporting:

  • Research standards of food ingredients as well as food and color additives set by the world organizations such as JECFA and IPCS INCHEM.
  • Obtain necessary information from foreign suppliers to ensure that standardized ingredients, if used, meet the food standards set by FDA and that only approved food and color additives are used in accordance with good manufacturing practices.
  • Keep abreast of updates on USDA’s Export Libraries.
  • Acquire knowledge of Food and Drug regulations and Consumer Packaging and Labeling Regulations via CFIA website and Canadian labeling consultants and Mexico

 

R&D Technical database system:

  • Approve updates to the system with R&D master recipes via change form
  • Confirm accuracy with R&D technical database and Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Check and confirm working comparison of batch size to recipe.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree (BA or BS) from a four year college or university with a major in food science and technology; or 6-8 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with FDA, USDA, Import/Export and Child Nutrition labeling regulations and Research and Development.
  • Solid understanding of nutritional trends, regulations and policies.
  • Have the ability to develop appropriate protocols and execute complex nutritional calculations.
  • Interpret multiple regulations and or federal guidance documents.
  • Must have a proficient knowledge of international labeling regulations (Mexico, Canada, South America, and Asia).
  • Range of Pay $95,000 - $105,000
